Medusa head in Rome

***

For those who asked me where I took the picture of that giant Medusa head I am with in my profile picture: it is just a detail of a bigger monument dedicated to Umberto I in Villa Borghese. Actually they are two Medusa heads made of porphyry stone, facing each other at the corners of the base of the monument. I don’t have any idea of the reason why the monument of a king was decorated with a medusa motif, but those medusas are so impressive that they immediately caught my attention.

Hello Annalisa, your blog and work of get all these pictures of medusa is amazin , congratulations!, I spent very nice time reviewing the pictures. About the doubt of why medusa is 2 times in this monument maybe it is because the day of his death , he met a man with his same phisical characters , name and birthday was the same day, this coincidence was very weird ,he was like a brother lost or something like that and few time after, the same day, this weird man was killed and also humberto I in different places, this information was in the next link that is a blog in spanish, well I think that medusa is 2 times in the monument for this other weird man in the history and medusa was presented like artilugio of protection.
